Abstract

The Satureja bachtiarica is a valuable medicinal plant from the Lamiaceae family which was widely used in Iranian traditional medicine. In this research plant materials were collected and dried under shade condition. The aerial parts of Satureja bachtiarica Bunge. with local name Merzeh in blooming stage were collected from Ilam Province. Plant samples were subjected to successive soxhlet extraction with methanol solvent in a factorial experiment base on completely randomized design. The antimicrobial effects of these extract and two antibiotics (Tetracycline and Gentamycyna) were determined against two Gram positive bacteria Streptococcus agalactiaand Staphylococcus aureus and two Gram negative bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia and Escherichia coli. Results of statistical analysis showed that plant extracts exhibited antibacterial activity against the tested bacterial strains, with different degrees. Plant extracts affect tested Gram negative bacteria more than Gram positives.
